The Chester Beatty Library 23rd Feb 2010
|
Meeting in the Silk Road Cafe at 10.30am we had refreshments before meeting our tour guide Cathriona Russell. We were given a wonderful insight into the many objects on display in the Sacred Traditions Gallery on the second floor where they keep the exhibits of the sacred texts, illuminated manuscripts and miniature paintings of Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and other religions. Also on the guided tour was the major exhibition of thirty-eight Chinese paintings from the Shanghai Museum. We also got to see the "MANI: The Lost Religion of Light" exhibition as well as the short film about Sir Alfred Chester Beatty.
Many thanks to Cathriona Russell for the wonderful guided tour of The Chester Beatty Library and to the trustees of the Chester Beatty Library for the use of the images below. www.cbl.ie
