How did you get into art / have you always been painting?
I got into painting and drawing as a teenager and then in a big way while attending the College of Marketing and Design in Dublin. It was a 4 year course in Environmental Design which I completed in 1982.
As part of the degree I studied architectural drawing, interior design, life drawing and much more.
I worked as an Interior Designer for many years and had my own business for a number of years.
What medium/media do you use?
If I’m out sketching, I use various black ink pens and also brush pens for added colour.
My preferred medium for painting on canvas is acrylics, as I like to work fast with intense colours. I paint in a very spontaneous way in my own style.
What are your favourite subjects/themes?
My favourite subjects and themes are landscapes.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Some of my inspiration comes from photos I take of the landscape around West Wicklow and mostly from being immersed in colourful villages and landscapes of northern Italy. I always feel drawn to my subject, which is how I decide what to paint. My paintings are also inspired by my passions for colour and the Aura-Soma colour care system.
Is there anything in particular you like to communicate through your art ?
If my paintings communicate a sense of place, then I am happy. I am fascinated how colour plays a big part in our lives, from creating an atmosphere in a living space, to affecting our wellbeing and emotions. I love expressing in the moment, a feeling, emotion or energy through a painting with the inspiration of colour. So therefore, I love sharing the beauty and energy of colour through my paintings.
When and why did you join the Greystones Art Group?
I joined G.A.G. in 2016 when I moved to Greystones, as I was looking to find some fellow artists to paint with and to participate in plein-air outings and local exhibitions. I have been secretary for the Greystones Art Group for the last 8 years.
Do you take commissions?
I am open to taking commissions.
Are you working on any special projects? (e.g. exhibitions, commission, etc.)
At the moment, I am preparing to take part in the Christmas Plaza Market and Exhibition taking place November and December 2023. at the Harbour front here in Greystones. Greystones Art Group will be participating on 3 Sundays as a group.
